Volunteering at Friends at First isn’t just about giving—it’s about becoming part of something deeply meaningful. Whether you're folding laundry, helping someone find a clean shirt, or simply offering a warm smile at check-in, your time makes a real difference in someone’s day.

We know that for many people, volunteering sounds fulfilling but feels overwhelming—especially when you don’t know what to expect. That’s okay. You’re not alone in feeling that way. The truth is, most of our volunteers started out with the same hesitation… and now they wouldn’t trade the experience for anything.

That’s why we walk you through each step, offer training, and match you with a role that feels right for your comfort level and schedule. You don’t have to have experience—you just need a heart that’s willing.

How It Works

🕒 When: Outreach days are currently Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM

📍 Where: Friends at First Outreach Center in Downtown Mesa. Address 15 E. 1st. Ave. Mesa, AZ 85210

🎯 What: From food pantry support to greeting guests and sorting donations, there’s a place for you here.

Training & Safety

To ensure everyone’s safety and dignity, we ask all volunteers to complete a one-time SafeGatherings training (online, $40, fully reimbursed after completion). We’ll guide you through it—no stress.
